Welcome to Kubeliden in the heart of Skåne
Kubeliden is a Montessori school providing nursery and elementary school education.
Founded in 1995, the school grounds are situated in central Höör, in the heart of Skåne, surrounded by a large wooded park, small pond and natural wildlife.
During 2007, the school moved into the newly renovated and spacious school facilities at Solbacka. Solbacka is situated on a large lot with many old trees, tucked away from any heavy trafficked roads.
The natural surroundings provides a uniquely stimulating playground where children may take part in various outdoor activities including nature walks, swinging, soccer, biking, sledding and much more.
Kubeliden has its own cooks and serves the students daily home-cooked lunches and snacks. After school child-care is available for children 6-11 years. The elementary school is tuition free.
Pedagogy
The Montessori method advocates self-expression and spontaneity in children.
Developed by the first woman doctor in Italy, Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), the central focus of the pedagogical approach is on the needs and talents of each individual child.
Important skills emphasized by the Montessori method are self-reliance and independence. The child controls the pace, topic and repetition of school lessons independent of the rest of the class so that the child may learn at his or her own pace. Teachers are expected to watch and observe each child, providing an individual program for learning. Individual initiative and creativity is strongly promoted at Kubeliden.
Parents are the Key
At Kubeliden parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s development. The school offers Montessori education courses for parents, free of charge, as a way of building continuity between the school and home environments.
Parents are also encouraged to engage themselves in school activities and enjoy the fun of learning together with their children.
School Overview
Nursery Education
1. Daycare or Nursery School Age: 1-3 yrs.
2. Preschool Age: 4-5 yrs.
The nursery education is a hands-on approach to learning where children are stimulated to learn through exploration, touch and playing. Daily activities include singing, dance, painting, drawing, playing with developmental toys, bicycling, running and much, much more.
Children are taught basic life skills and learn to dress themselves, help cook, clean and put their clothes and toys away. The child/teacher ratio is approximately 4.0 at Kubeliden.
Elementary
The elementary school follows the same curriculum used in the public elementary schools in Sweden. Thus, children enrolled at Kubeliden are learning the same things as children in public schools. The only difference is pedagogical approach to learning used at Kubeliden.
The school gives standardized reading tests to children enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. Mathematic evaluations are given every month for each individual child. There is a national standardized school exam given to all children in Sweden during the 2nd and 5th grades, and historically, Kubeliden students have scored well on those exams.
